Painting a foreground

I think one of the most difficult sections in a landscape painting, especially for beginners, is the foreground area. I know that's the part I struggle with. I've been trying to understand
better how to handle the foreground area without overpowering the whole piece. Here is a very helpful article by David Bellamy, posted on 3/29/10 on paintersonline.co.uk.  http://www.painters-online.co.uk/Features/How-to-Paint-Foregrounds-in-Watercolour/_ft238

He seems to paint in watercolor like Edward Wesson, one of my favorite watercolorists.  I am anxious to learn the ideas he is showing here.  Hopefully, if you are struggling with this as well, you can benefit from it, too.
